Cities and towns across the world are beautifully lit with bright Christmas lights that make us so excited.

When it comes to entertaining your guests, table decoration plays an important role to add a nice touch to the experience.
先日参加させていただいたテーブルセッティングのイベントは、
テーマや色合いによって食卓を様々な雰囲気に変えるテーブルコーディネートの魔法を学べる素敵な展示会でした。
大手百貨店のブルーミングデール（Bloomingdale's）主催で開催された同イベントは、
一見斬新なデザインながらも食卓に趣を添えるセンスが盛りだくさん。
一つ一つのダイニングごとに設けられたコンセプトが楽しく、まるでファンタジーの世界に迷い込んだようでした。
We had an opportunity to participate in the special event which was organized by Bloomingdale's featuring table decoration, and it was a wonderful time to learn the magic of table coordination. Each table is displayed along with a certain concept and color scheme, and you just can't get enough of them! So pretty and festive! Here are some of the decorations we saw at the event.
現代ではおもてなしに欠かせないセンターピースやテーブルデコレーション。
その起源は古代ローマ時代にまでさかのぼり、当時は王侯貴族の酒宴の席を盛り上げる演出の一部で楽しまれていました。
時代が下って、ブルボン王朝のフランス下では見た目の奇抜さや豪華さが好まれるなど、時代によっては食事そのものよりも重きが置かれ、エンターテイメント性が強かったことがうかがい知れます。
It is very common to decorate a table with center pieces and accessories in modern days, but the tradition stemmed from all the way back to the ancient Roman period. At that time, well-decorated tables are enjoyed with meals at the royal or noble people's banquets. Under the reign of the House of Bourbon in France, unconventional and eye-catching table decoration was more preferred as one of the entertainments of the royal parties. Simply put, table decoration was only accessible to the privileged for long time.
主に特権階級の食卓の場に限られていたテーブルデコレーションですが、
一般家庭にも普及するようになるのは実は意外にも遅く、1800年代後半になってからのこと。
イギリスを皮切りに起こった産業革命の影響で銀製品や食器などの大量生産が可能になったことで、
一般市民が生活や余暇を愉しむ機会がも格段に増え、こうしたテーブルコーディネートも普及していきました。
美味しい食事を提供するだけでなく、目で楽しむテーブル装飾は”豊かさ”や”幸せな家庭”の象徴。
家族が集うかけがえのない時間に感謝して、ホリデーシーズンを存分に楽しみましょう。

What made it possible for them to enjoy their table decoration is the development of the Industrial Revolution, which promoted the manufacturing system and enabled the mass-production of daily items such as silverware and flatware.
Since then, table decoration has prevailed more and more all over the world.
Being able to have the tasty food with people you love is simply happiness itself,
but in addition to that, being able to appreciate decorated table would be icing on the cake to your special moments.
